The East Garia Education and Cultural Society is a notable name in the Garia Station area and its surroundings. The Society operates two educational institutions: Sitanath Shishu Shiksha Mandir and East Garia Educational Institution, along with a cultural education centre called Surobitan.
The Sitanath Shishu Shiksha Mandir, formerly known as Shishu Shiksha Mandir, was established in 1967 as a primary school. Later, considering the growing educational needs of the area, the East Garia Educational Institution was founded as a Secondary School in 2006. However, it has since been upgraded to a Higher Secondary School, offering two academic streams: Arts and Science.
The school has two campuses—one at Tentulberia and the other at Srikhanda. Regular classes for students from Class 5 to Class 12 are held at both the places, which boast modern infrastructure, well-ventilated classrooms, advanced laboratories, and a sufficient number of subject-specific teachers, enhancing the school’s reputation. Additionally, projector-based classes have recently been introduced, making lessons more engaging for students. Smart class room has also already been introduced in Srikhanda campus.
Periodical exams ensure that students stay focused on their studies. However, the institution believes that education alone is not enough for a child's holistic mental development. Hence, students are also taught various handicrafts, which not only break the monotony of studies but also nurture their creativity. We take great pride in acknowledging the fact that our students have consistently been passing the Madhyamik Exams with flying colours since 2012 when our first batch appeared for the Madhyamik, till date. An Advisory Committee consisting of eminent educationists help and guide the teachers regularly with their expertise to uplift the standard of education.
The annual school magazine, Korok, and various cultural competitions contribute significantly to the students' intellectual and artistic growth. Notably, in 2025, the school's teachers and students conducted the Saraswati Puja rituals in the presence of Shrimat Swami Hitakamananda ji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong, marking a unique achievement.
It is a matter of great pride that the students of this institution have excelled in various fields beyond the school’s boundaries.
As the Secretary of the school, I sincerely wish for its continued progress and success.
